Why You Need To Ditch Bottled Water

In recent years, the dangers and inconveniences of bottled water have come to light. It’s time to ditch plastic water bottles for good, and I’ll tell you why.

Plastic Infuses Chemicals Into the Water

A study published in 2018 by Frontiers in Chemistry sampled 259 bottles of water sold internationally and concluded that 93% of them contained microplastics. Microplastic, aka synthetic polymer particles, is harmful to both your body and the environment. They are absorbed by the body and then released as dangerous chemicals into the body’s cells. This becomes a great threat to your endocrine system and is especially dangerous for pregnant women, or women who are breastfeeding.

Microplastic particles can also accumulate polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chemicals linked to cancers, weakened immune systems, reproductive problems, and much more.

Bisphenol A (BPA) which is found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins can also be found in some water bottles.

Fluorene-9-bisphenol (BHPF) is a substitute for BPA. BHPF is used in so-called “BPA-free” plastics but is also an environmental toxin that disrupts healthy body function.

Bottled Water Is Just Glorified Tap Water

One of the primary reasons consumers purchase bottled water is the belief that it is safer to drink than tap water. This is a commonly believed misconception. Most advertisements depict fresh mountain springs or crystal clear waterfalls when selling bottled water. The truth is, bottled water may just be unfiltered. tap water.

Some manufacturers run their water through a filtration system before bottling, but many do not. They simply obtain the water from the tap and charge for the plastic packaging. So in reality, you are drinking the same water you can easily access at your kitchen sink.

Bottled Water Undergoes Very Little Regulation

Bottled Water Undergoes Very Little Regulation
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) regulates public tap water and sets legal limits for some contaminants. In contrast, bottled water undergoes very little regulation. This leads to traces of mold, microbes, arsenic, and thousands of other impurities

Drinking Bottled Water Can Lead To Fertility Issues and Higher Disease Rates in Adults

As mentioned previously, the chemicals from plastic affect your endocrine and reproductive system. The chemical compounds found in bottled water acts as a faux-estrogen. When consumed, it causes several abnormalities that have been tied to birth defects, developmental disabilities in children, hyperactivity disorders, increased risk for certain cancers, and more.

Exposure to the toxins in bottled water is linked to cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and many other diseases. It also is linked to weight gain. Since BPA and BHPF disrupt our hormones, which affect nearly every bodily function, including metabolism and the rate that fat is stored. This causes weight gain and difficulty losing weight.

They are Terrible for the Environment

80% of plastic bottles end up in landfills. In the U.S. alone, 1,500 plastic water bottles are consumed every second….. That’s 1,200 bottles in a landfill PER SECOND! Those harmful chemicals that were once leaked into your body, are now seeping into the environment as the bottles decompose.
